Well, it’s finished. My first music video. The song is Brothers and Sisters. Click here to read my original blog about the song. Click here to see the video. Click here to visit my friend Peter Tang’s page—Peter was the catalyst behind the video, an extremely talented director who is destined to do big things. He came up with the concept for the video, organized the crew, basically, he made the ish happen. The whole thing, the visual tone, the script, the concept, was all Peter. Without him, no video, and I’m stuck blogging about my cat Harry instead of writing this little ditty.

I’d like to publicly offer up my humble thanks to you, Peter (and his entire Epic Circle crew), for blessing me with your talent and vision. We actually shot two music videos, the 2nd one which will be released later this year to coincide with the release of my 2nd album, The Love Chronicles Vol. 1, which Nate and I are hard at work on.

If I’ve been absent or late in replying or commenting on your MySpace pages, please accept my apologies. We are all busy with our respective lives, doing the things that are important to us, and hopefully, creating the lives, each day, that we want to live. I hope this message/blog finds you all happy and doing well so far in 2007.

Soifua,
Gary

Hey all, wanted to share some news: 6 of my songs are appearing in an independent film slated for release by Faith Filmworks this fall. Four of the songs are off my debut album, Songs from the Black Book, and 2 are original tunes which I wrote specifically for the film. This is somewhat exciting news because assuming the movie gets distribution, the producers of the film have indicated they would submit both of my original songs for the Best Original Song category at the Oscars. Of course, in the independent film world, it’s a long shot, but it’s still a nice thought to hold in your head for a little bit. The name of the movie is Clarksdale, brought to you by the Producer/Writer-Director team of Michael and Christine Swanson, who also did the film All About You, which was in limited release in theaters, received several festival awards, was released to cable, and is now available on DVD.

The songs that will be appearing in the movie off my debut album, Songs from the Black Book, are: White Blip On My Radar Screen, What Will I Do, Victim of Ur Love, One of the Forgotten, and the two original songs are Clarksdale and A New Day. Nate and I screened the movie last week and needless to say, we were really happy with the outcome. It’s a very inspiring movie, with a wonderful little twist at the end that will really surprise people. A lot of talented people were involved in the making of this film. Members of the cast include Boris Kodjoe, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Luke Swanson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Raven Goodwin and Ruby Dee. The film was scored by Asdru Sierra, one of the founders of the popular Latin group Ozomatli.

I stopped off at my boy Arnold Ale’s pad last Tuesday and sang a hook on a song that DJ Steezylez33 and Ekredible are working on together for a compilation album they are about to drop. The song’s called “My Island Teine,” and it’s hot. Look for the compilation album to be released sometime this summer.

KSBS-FM radio in American Samoa has thrown Songs from the Black Book into their regular rotation and debuted the album last Friday night to coincide with the CD release here in Los Angeles. The album has also been played in Boston, MA on the Somervile Community radio station on the show The Neo Soul Loung Pt. II. And finally, the album plays regularly in my car and on my walkman where I obssess over the mix, even though its printed and the CD is out now and it’s too late to do anything about it.

For you lazy people who don’t want to cut and paste the address, you may click on the Gig calendar for Mapquest directions, or, if you’re old-fashioned, write the address down and then use your Thomas Guide to find your way using the elaborate grid system that was in place for many years.

The show is going to be a lot of fun. Two wonderful up-and-coming artists, Donald Castor, and Sharon Youngblood will start the festivities off at around 9 p.m. Get there early as there is no assigned seating and no cover charge. Did I mentioned it would be a lot of fun? Hmm-dee-dum, I have absolute power. I can make you read whatever I want. There. See. I did it just now. Here, again. Absolute power.

Yes.
